Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons

A  coalition  of  major  charities  and  organisations  have  expressed  their  support  for  The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and announced plans
to light community beacons in her honour.

Queens Platinum Jubilee

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was celebrated by NCI with a number of events being held around the country. The celebrations started with a ‘shout out’ on Classic FM for the NCI on the Anne Marie request program with an appropriate classical request, the ‘Nautical Overture’. Eleven NCI stations lit beacons or braziers at 21:45 on Thursday 2nd June.

Many other stations took part in beacon events organised in conjunction with their local authorities or other organisations, and most of our stations around the country marked this unique occasion with light displays, bunting, flags and even laser displays. Specially commissioned braziers were lit during public events at or near the NCI stations at Boscastle, Calshot Tower, Gwennap Head, Lyme Bay, Newhaven, St Donat’s Bay, Stone Point, Torbay, Whitstable and Worms Head, and there were also beacons lit at private events held at Canvey Island, Nare Point and Skegness. Several of these were attended by dignitaries including the High Sheriff of Cornwall and several Mayors. Many stations who were unable to host a beacon event held open days, had stalls at public events or even lit up their stations with coloured light and laser displays. NCI are very proud to have taken part in this special, historic event to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We'd like to thank everyone who attended any of our events and give a very special thank you to our stations and watchkeepers for all their efforts in organising and staging them.
